Revamping the Iconic Union Club: A Visionary Design

At Shelters Design Studio, hailed as one of the premier architectural firms in Madurai, we were presented with a thrilling challenge: to breathe new life into the esteemed Union Club, a cherished landmark in the heart of Madurai. Established in 1881, the Madurai Union Club boasts a rich heritage, and our task was to elevate its timeless charm with modern luxury and amenities.

Innovative Spatial Planning for Enhanced Experience

Spanning across a linear expanse of 8583 square feet spread over four levels, including a semi-basement, our approach involved strategic zoning to optimize functionality and ambiance. Each level was meticulously divided into distinct zones, offering unique features and experiences that seamlessly blend or stand alone.

Elevating the Entrance Experience

Central to our design was the entrance foyer, serving as the gateway to the entire development. Flowing effortlessly from formal areas, the foyer opens onto a spacious wooden patio, overlooking a sprawling swimming pool — a captivating sight that sets the tone for the Union Club’s rejuvenation.

Privacy and Serenity: The Essence of Interior Design

On the first level, a harmonious fusion of space welcomes members and guests. Here, a sprawling gymnasium and elegantly appointed suite rooms await, arranged in a linear layout to ensure maximum privacy and tranquility for occupants.

A Haven for Recreation and Relaxation

Ascending to the second level reveals a haven of leisure activities. Zones dedicated to billiards and table tennis converge into a casual lounge, seamlessly transitioning to a semi-covered terrace offering picturesque views of the southern landscape.

Aesthetic Harmony: Blending Tradition with Modernity

Externally, a careful blend of brick plaster and polished white paint infuses the Union Club with a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic. Earthy tones dominate the interior and exterior, harmonizing with the surrounding environment and encapsulating the essence of Madurai’s architectural heritage.
